Disney+ Originally Planned to Rebrand Daredevil: Born Again with "Woke-Friendly" Characters Until Cast Revolted
In yet another controversial attempt to modernize beloved franchises, Disney+ executives allegedly pushed for sweeping character changes in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, proposing new, more inclusive names such as DEIDevil, KingThem, and Pronounisher. However, insiders report that the show's stars pushed back against what some called an "avalanche of corporate wokeness," forcing Disney to backpedal faster than a blind lawyer in a street fight.
According to anonymous sources within the production, Disney's original vision aimed to align Born Again with contemporary social values. The rebrand sought to transform Daredevil into DEIDevil—a superhero dedicated to fighting injustice through corporate diversity initiatives rather than physical combat. Kingpin, historically known for his ruthless mob tactics, was set to become KingThem, a powerful yet non-binary financial influencer who conquers Hell’s Kitchen through equitable wealth redistribution. Meanwhile, The Punisher—typically a no-nonsense vigilante—was to be reimagined as Pronounisher, a crime-fighter who educates villains on proper gender terminology before taking any drastic measures.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige reportedly pitched the idea in a meeting, saying, "This isn’t just about superheroes—it’s about making sure every demographic feels seen, even if it means completely reworking 60 years of established lore."
The backlash from the cast was immediate. Charlie Cox, reprising his role as Matt Murdock, allegedly threw his script across the room and shouted, “I didn’t spend years playing a blind Catholic ninja just to be turned into a human resources consultant.” Vincent D’Onofrio, known for his menacing portrayal of Wilson Fisk, reportedly deadpanned, “You want me to run a non-profit? Kingpin is the system.”
Perhaps the most heated response came from Jon Bernthal, returning as Frank Castle. Witnesses say he furiously loaded a prop shotgun and asked, "Do you really want me to play Pronounisher?" The room fell silent.
Facing the potential collapse of the series, Disney+ was forced to abandon the rebranding initiative, though executives remain tight-lipped on how much of the original concept was filmed before the revolt. A Disney spokesperson later clarified, “We always strive to be forward-thinking, but in this case, we may have gotten a little ahead of ourselves.”
With production back on track, Daredevil: Born Again will now retain its original characters, ensuring that fans can still enjoy their favorite vigilantes in all their gritty, brooding, and unapologetic glory. However, whispers from within the studio suggest that Pronounisher may still appear as a limited-time skin in Fortnite.
